Michael Krautter is a director of photography and director/dop.

When I was growing up, I was trained as a musician and thought that was what I was going to do for a living. I was just following a form of artistic expression that resonated with me the most. But as soon as I discovered film,I knew it was what I wanted to do..

As a young dop I was lucky enough to work with some of the most renowned directors. Each time it had to be a film that stood out visually and conceptually. It certainly shouldn’t look like the rest. This school still characterizes me today.

Having my own gear allowed me to test out lots of different ideas and to develop various techniques beforehand to create not just a visually stunning film, but an experience.

Over the years, I have worked on numerous projects around the world, which have been repeatedly recognized with awards.

There’s nothing quite like that magical moment in the viewfinder! That’s the moment you’ve been waiting for, and sometimes even beyond your expectations. When all the effort, sweat and energy are transformed and become visible as smiles on the faces of the team – simply priceless.

Today I also work as a director/dop. 

I particularly enjoy working with real people, whether they are craftspeople, musicians, athletes or artists. It is so rewarding to tell genuine and poetic stories that resonate.

I like to get my hands dirty during the entire creative process, be flexible and plan meticulously to achieve results that inspire everyone. Regardless of the genre, my aim is always to fascinate the audience. That’s why I’m so passionate about editing and sound design!

Besides advertising, I work on photo projects, documentary films and art projects. These projects enrich my style and experience – and are simply too much fun.
