Each time we worked with producer Lee Cheng from MIC, we travelled to the remotest corners of the world. At first I was surprised when he rushed me with the equipment list for the mountain locations in Sichuan, but then I understood why: the trucks took four days. The endless vastness and rugged mountains were a stark contrast to Shanghai. We shot the urban scenes in some extraordinary locations, experimenting with light and laser installations and lots of dust! It was worth the effort: we were later rewarded with some of the most stunning views of Shanghai at night, not to mention the fantastic noodle soups.
