Wave Fragment

I could easily spend hours on a single object, exploring all the angles and perspectives to create different moods and abstract landscapes, experimenting to get the most intriguing results and discovering a new world that comes to life on the moving surface of the sculpture. That's what I did with Wave Fragment. A kinetic sculpture based on fluid dynamics that invites you to immerse yourself, forget time and reflect on themes such as nature, the loss of nature or the relationship between nature and culture. Everyone will inevitably let their mind wander and have their own associations. An artist's success often depends on finding a language that the viewer can read and hear, and obviously she has, otherwise I would not have asked her to make a film of her sculpture. Please use headphones!

I am always fascinated by what you can discover with a camera if you take the time to experiment. Images you could hardly have imagined before. I get even more excited when you are suddenly rewarded with the magical moments you have been hoping for, but which can only be seen with a camera. they remain undiscovered to the naked eye. The magic happens as the light passes through the lens, some of which have been specially modified for this project.

A film that invites you to dive into Verena Bachl’s world and the sound design developed by Karsten Schuhl. It is based on the actual sounds of the sculpture. The sounds were recorded with various types of microphones and electromagnetic induction coils. They were then processed to create a composition that interprets the mood of the sculpture and the film.
